Knowing Someone Will Be There: Peace of Mind Care Visits Brings Reassurance to Manatee County Residents
For one local man, planning for the future came down to a deeply personal worry: Who would speak for him if he could no longer speak for himself?
He connected with Alison Stohler, founder of Bradenton-based Peace of Mind Care Visits, to put support in place. Together, they began conversations about his healthcare wishes, what quality of life meant to him, and what he would want someone to understand if difficult decisions became necessary.
“Having someone to name on a form is one thing. Having someone take the time to understand you is something much more personal,” Stohler says. “That’s the reassurance I want to offer—the knowledge that your wishes matter and someone is preparing to honor them.”
Stohler brings a background in hospital imaging, a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, a master’s degree in management and leadership, and completed patient advocacy training. But she sees listening as one of the most meaningful parts of her work.
“People don’t always need someone to take over,” she says. “Sometimes they need someone to sit beside them, listen to what’s worrying them, and help make the next step feel manageable.”
Through professional healthcare surrogacy, patient advocacy, wellness visits and companionship, and life coordination, Peace of Mind Care Visits helps community members find support that fits their circumstances.
For a person living alone, that may mean looking forward to a familiar face. For an adult child living far away, it may mean receiving an update after a parent’s visit. For someone planning ahead, it may mean establishing a healthcare surrogate relationship before a crisis occurs, with the appropriate legal designation in place.
The work is practical, but its purpose is personal: helping neighbors feel heard, connected, and less alone with their concerns.
“We can’t promise life will never become complicated,” Stohler says. “But we can help people prepare, build a relationship, and know they have someone in their corner. That’s what peace of mind means to me.”
